What Do Daddy’s Do?

What Do Daddy’s Do??

My Mother once told me I asked her, “What do Daddy’s do?”

Wide-eyed and curious, I simply had no clue.

He wasn’t there when I came into the world,

And I hadn’t seen much of him since.

I saw what my other friend’s Daddy’s did.

And this had me quite convinced

That I wanted one too.

I desired for his eyes to light up when he saw me twirl

Then call me the prettiest girl in the world

To take me to my soccer games

And be the loudest in the stands

To tell me how proud he was of me

And to always hold my hand.

I often wondered why God was upset with me to not give me this Daddy I desperately desired

Why I wasn't good enough for him to stay and be the one that he admired

When I was 13 years-old my Heavenly Daddy gave me eyes anew

It was then and there it occurred to me

I know what Daddy’s do….

He has a way of showing you He has been there all along

He was in the room when you were born, and He fell completely in love with you

He was the one cheering for you at your games, your biggest fan through and through

On the edge of his seat, wondering what other amazing things you will do

He picked you up every time you fell, and told you it would be all right

And all those tears you cried at night, He never left your side

Holding you, He wept with you, and wished He could take all the pain away

And that’s what He did, up on that cross 2,000 years ago

He did what no one else could to make sure you knew how much your Daddy loves you

Being with you forever was what mattered to Him most

Whatever it took, He would do in a heartbeat, if it meant He got to give you his red-letter love notes

This Daddy stays, He never leaves, through every hill and valley

You are protected under His wings and He keeps you safe at night even when you sleep

There isn't a minute of time He misses with you, because His love for you runs incredibly deep

That wide-eyed girl is 30 now with a family of her own

And she will be praising Him til’ her last breath

Because now she knows what Daddy’s do.
